Are you as healthy as you think?

Are you healthy?
How do you know?

You feel good. You look good. Nothing of concern showed up in your last physical.
Is that enough information to determine your state of health?

The WHO defines health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being. Not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

The thing is, we don’t really know if we are healthy. Research shows that you can lose 90% of kidney function before symptoms appear!

Think about that for a minute.

We walk around thinking that if we don’t have any symptoms or signs of ill health, then we must be fine. But, if the symptoms don’t even show up until after we’ve lost almost all of our functioning, then we’re really not doing that great.

Well, that’s pretty cruddy news to hear. Why even try? Now what?

I hate to say it, but I think we need to generally assumer that we are UNhealthy and this means we need to treat ourselves differently than before.
We need to pay more attention.
We have more work to do.
We need a plan.

Good news! I’ve been working on that and it is do-able.

Have hope and read on to the next article.
